“I question the government's choice to lead this new military buying corporation. The person chosen does not have military supply experience, gets paid too much, and seems to only have the job because he is a friend of the Prime Minister.”
“Mr. Speaker, I was clear when I spoke about the skills required for the job. Was what Mr. Guzman did at Goldman Sachs a good thing? It probably was. However, is he the right person to run an opaque Crown corporation responsible for military procurement and for meeting operational requirements? That is what we are questioning. We are also questioning the fact that he is receiving an astronomical salary. As I mentioned in my speech, if the government had appointed someone with military procurement and supply expertise to a key position, that would be entirely appropriate. However, if someone turns up out of the blue and the only criterion they meet is being a friend of the Prime Minister, it is reasonable to ask questions.”
