Discussion · Government Orders

“I will propose changes to this bill. The government keeps creating agencies and government-owned corporations that lack accountability and might not get results. This bill is too vague and leaves too much open for future decisions.”
“Mr. Speaker, yes, I will bring forward amendments to committee, and I will certainly propose them to the minister. The difficulty is the pattern. We have seen it with Build Canada Homes, which was first a special operating agency with no accountability and then a Crown corporation. Now there is the Defence Investment Agency, which was first a special operating agency. I imagine that next we will see the Major Projects Office be made into a Crown corporation. Again, there were two rounds of announcements and a flurry of setting things up that may or may not deliver results. Certainly, the legislation would not ensure anything. It has a lot of wide open space for future decisions.”
