Discussion · Government Orders
Jeff Kibble Conservative
“I do not oppose government-owned companies, but some fail. This bill says the new defence agency must follow the orders of one minister. I am asking if that puts too much power over billions of dollars in one person's hands.”
“Mr. Speaker, I am not necessarily opposed to a Crown corporation. There are many examples of Crown corporations that have worked well. There are examples of ones that have been quite the opposite. What it says in the bill is that the Defence Investment Agency “must”, not “may”, follow the direction of the newly created associate minister. Does the member worry that this is putting too much power, in fact almost ultimate power, into the control of one person, who would be in control of billions of dollars? Does that cause her concern?”
