“Times are tough, but the government still chose to spend more than it had. The budget office found we had 37 billion dollars in extra revenue, but the government announced over 52 billion dollars in new spending. The Prime Minister should explain this choice.”

Mr. Speaker, nobody disputes that tariffs and global uncertainty are hurting our economy. In fact, Prime Minister Harper balanced the budget during those difficult times. The PBO acknowledges that these are tough times, but it also tells us that since June, stronger revenues created $37 billion in additional fiscal room while the government announced $52.6 billion in new measures. That is a choice about how to use the available money, and it is entirely reasonable to ask the Prime Minister to explain it.
