“The government is spending too much money. Canada spends more as a share of its economy than most peer countries, and our debt costs keep rising. I want the Prime Minister to tell us if he has a real plan to get borrowing under control.”

Mr. Speaker, my hon. colleague loves to talk about our amazing credit rating, but Canada is already spending more as a share of our economy than the G20 median, and the OECD tells us government spending has increased significantly since before the pandemic. Even Russia, which is in the middle of a war with Ukraine, is spending less than us. Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Budget Officer is projecting continuing federal deficits and rising debt interest costs. Canadians deserve to hear whether the Prime Minister has a credible plan to bring federal borrowing under control.
