Discussion · Government Orders
John Brassard Conservative
“The government is presenting its budget on a Thursday afternoon right before a week off. That leaves only one day to question them about it. I think the government is doing this to avoid questions because it will be a bad budget. I want to know what the member thinks about this timing.”
“Mr. Speaker, this motion ultimately comes down to the fundamental principles of accountability, transparency and oversight. I am wondering what the member’s comments would be about the fact that the government is introducing a budget on November 5, a Thursday afternoon. Now, I have been here for 11 years, and I do not think I have ever seen a budget introduced on a Thursday afternoon. It leaves Friday for question period and then members will be, over the next week, in their ridings for the week of Remembrance Day. That really speaks to the issues of accountability, transparency and oversight. It proves that the government does not want any questions on this budget. I would suggest that it is going to be a really bad budget and that is why the government does not want to do it. I wonder what her comments are on that.”
