“Our increased spending is justified. For the first time in generations, we are spending 2% of our GDP on the military. Past prime ministers wanted to reach this goal, but our new government reached it in six months. This is a good way to spend money to support our troops and protect our country.”

Mr. Speaker, the entirety of my speech, with the exception of the reference to Stephen Harper, was about the time since the last federal election. Canadians elected a new Prime Minister and a new government. If we were to take a look at the expenditures, I would tell the member to look specifically at the Canadian Forces, because in the Canadian Forces, for the first time in generations, we have actually hit 2% of the GDP. This is something that has been called for, for years. Stephen Harper dreamed of it, and even the previous administration with Justin Trudeau hoped to achieve it. The Prime Minister actually achieved it within six months of being elected. I believe that it is a good expense to support members of CAF and our sovereignty.
