“The Liberals only reached the 2% defence goal by counting Coast Guard spending as military spending, without actually giving our military what it needs. At the same time, tax revenues grew from $284 billion in 2020 to $417 billion, while deficits head toward $80 billion a year. Canadians have nothing to show for all this money except more people needing food banks.”

Mr. Speaker, Canadians know that the Liberals just changed the math around a bit to make it work with their 2% commitment, such as making the Canadian Coast Guard fall under national defence so they could take credit for the money being spent on the Coast Guard. They did not actually, truly or properly reach that 2% by providing our military with the things that it needs. What I want to double down on here is that the Prime Minister became Justin Trudeau’s adviser in 2020. Again, tax revenue for the government was $284 billion. When the current Prime Minister was advising the former prime minister, it went all the way up to $417 billion. I know that number is going to continue climbing. At the same time, the government is blowing past a balanced budget. It is on a path to keep it going up to around $80 billion a year. At one point, it was projected to be sustained at $63 billion a year. The PBO said that. Canadians are still wondering what they got for this, other than more people at the food bank.
