Discussion · Government Orders
Philip Lawrence Conservative
“Canadians spend their own money better than the government does. If the government spent less, parents could feed their children, businesses would do well, and people would have jobs. The government caused these problems itself.”
“Mr. Speaker, this comes down to a decades-old, if not centuries-old, debate. Conservatives believe at heart that the best people to spend Canadians’ money are Canadians. We do not believe we need the government to control our lives. Ronald Reagan once famously said that Liberals define compassion by how many people the government helps; Conservatives define compassion by how many people the government does not have to help. If we simply restrained spending, parents would be able to feed their children, businesses would be able to thrive and people would have jobs. These are all self-inflicted wounds by the government.”
