“Young people are struggling to find good jobs and buy homes. This makes it harder for them to start families and build a life. I am asking my colleague to talk about the problems young people face today and how we can fix them.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, not all members may know this, but my colleague wrote an excellent book a number of years ago about the challenges young men are facing. Many things in that book are very relevant and very prescient. I know my friend and colleague has spent much of his life and career in this House and long before that trying to address the challenges that young men face. I am sure he has been hearing, as I have been hearing, about the struggle associated with hitting the initial rungs on the ladder. People want a secure career and a home. Those are the first steps toward being able to build out the life they want. Maybe that means getting married or having children. These things are a bit harder to do when they are living in their parents’ home or are not sure where their career is going. These initial milestones are not just about economic well-being. They are also about people being able to realize the goals they have in terms of family, community and so many other things. I wonder if the member could share, from his experience and the work he has been doing for many years, the particular challenges facing young people today and what we can do about them.
