Michelle Rempel Garner Conservative
“This bill does not cover gaming sites like Roblox, where a lot of online harms happen to kids. Conservatives proposed a bill that covered more. I want to know why the government brought forward a bill with so few details, and why it lets rich tech lobbyists decide the rules instead of Parliament.”
“Madam Speaker, the minister asked my colleague a question about keeping kids safe online, yet we know there are platforms where a big bulk of the stats she mentioned occurred and that would not be covered under this bill, such as Roblox, for example, and other online gaming platforms. Conservatives delivered a bill that would have had much more robust coverage and be technology agnostic. I wonder if my colleague understands why the government has put forward such a detail-free bill if it wants to keep kids safe online. Why would it leave all these regulations to be negotiated by rich tech company lobbyists and not by parliamentarians?”
