“Parliament needs to ask tough questions about big tech companies. These companies use their platforms to make huge profits, so they should also use their resources to keep children safe. We must make sure kids are properly protected online.”
“Madam Speaker, my colleague’s questions are wonderful, because that is exactly what Parliament must examine. Technology companies have enormous resources. They control algorithms, platforms and user data, but are they investing enough in protecting children? If big tech companies can design algorithms to maximize profit, should they not be expected to design safeguards that prioritize children’s safety? That is the question Canadians deserve to have answered. That is what we have to provide to all Canadian families and all children so we can better protect our children in the future.”
