“We need this bill to make social media companies more open about what they do. Right now, these companies hide what they are doing. This law will make them share safety plans so we can set proper rules.”
“Mr. Speaker, there are going to be lots of places that do that, like through the commission and through the regulations that may come out of the act. I think it is important to have transparency. We do not have transparency at the moment. In fact, we have had the opposite of transparency. We have had the intentional obfuscation or intentional suppression of what some of these platforms are doing. I believe that this legislation and the commission’s actions, in particular the filing of digital safety plans, will force a levelling up that will bring more transparency to these things.”
