“The government should have consulted the provinces before bringing forward this bill. It needs to find out what rules they already have and how this bill affects them. I want to learn who was consulted and study this bill carefully in committee.”
“Mr. Speaker, my colleague from the Bloc is absolutely right. I do think that whenever the federal government seeks to undertake such substantial legislation as this, individual provinces should be consulted. They should be spoken to about what they already have in place and how a bill would impact their provincial legislation and how it would not. The member brings up a good question. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of who exactly was consulted and have more in-depth discussions when we potentially take a look at the bill in committee.”
