“Most people in my riding want age limits for social media and more government rules. But this bill does not give parents any role in protecting their children. Can we add tools for parents when this bill goes to committee? Also, how will the government hold the bill's expert commission accountable?”

Madam Speaker, I just want to get a couple things on the record. I actually surveyed my constituents, and the numbers the member quoted are relatively in line. Just over 60% of constituents in my riding support an age limit being put on children with access to social media, and just over 70% feel that the Government of Canada does need to do more to regulate this space. I have two questions, though. In Bill C-34, there is no mention of the role of the parent, nor how it would enable them to help protect their children. My colleague, the member for Calgary Nose Hill, has tabled a bill, Bill C-216, that has some good clauses. When Bill C-34 bill gets to committee, does the member think there is something that could be added to it to help give parents more tools? On the second aspect, the member talked about the expert commission, and I do not disagree with his assertion, but I wonder if he could tell us what the accountability mechanism is for those experts so that they are not buried within the bureaucracy, because, like any human being, nobody is perfect. I am a big believer in government accountability when it comes to laws that impact Canadians right across the spectrum.
