Mr. Speaker, it was family who brought Ranjit Sarin to the Yukon and family who lovingly surrounded him when he passed on last spring. However, it was service and dedication to the community that led most Yukoners to know him so well. As an active Rotarian and a member of Yukon’s Golden Age Society, Ranjit never stopped working for the well-being of seniors. Indeed, his decades of service earned him the Governor General’s Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers in 2023. As president of the Vimy Heritage Housing Society, Ranjit was a passionate visionary for accessible seniors housing, a dream sadly yet to be realized. Ranjit’s high standards and expectations applied to himself no less than anyone around him. Indeed, in a call just a few days before he died, he began as always with, “Hello, MP. It’s your favourite constituent again.” Ranjit Sarin lived what Yukoners cherish: engagement, community and generosity. I thank Ranjit for his dedication to the Yukon. May we who lead remember that in a life marked by joy and service, he truly lived life to the full.
