Replying to Mario Simard (Bloc Québécois)
“Mr. Speaker, I congratulate my colleague on his bill, which is intrinsically valuable and very interesting. I only have a small concern that I wish to share. Generally speaking, prescription drugs and health are areas of jurisdiction that fall to Quebec and the provinces. When we look at this bill more closely, it is clear that it is lacking a process for carrying out direct consultation. Perhaps the member should have included some form of consultation with Quebec and the provinces in the bill. Is that maybe coming later?”

Mr. Speaker, Thanks · 23 wordsI thank my colleague for this great question. People who work at Sainte‑Justine Hospital in Montreal helped me a lot with this bill. Thanks Claims · 43 wordsIt is challenging to identify jurisdiction when it comes to health. The two levels of government each have a role to play in this field. The provinces are responsible for regulating medical professions, 1while the Government of Canada has responsibility over prescription drugs.2Partly on point
