Replying to Luc Berthold (Conservative)
“Madam Speaker, I would like my colleague to answer a very simple question. What are the ministers good for? We have a Prime Minister who made a big promise. He said we were going to buy Canadian. That was the big promise. He said we were going to be our own best customer, yet now we see that, on such an important issue, at a time as important as the month of November, just a few days before Remembrance Day, the Prime Minister is not keeping his word and is awarding a contract to an American company rather than to a non-profit organization made up of veterans. What kind of message are the ministers sending to Canadians when they cannot even keep and uphold the Prime Minister’s promises?”

Madam Speaker, that is an excellent question. Indeed, what message does that send? It sends a highly negative message when a Prime Minister solemnly declares that we are going to fight the Americans, fight Donald Trump and buy Canadian, only for the government to do the exact opposite of what he said. My colleague is right to wonder what the ministers are doing. What has the Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement done to change the rules and bring them in line with the Prime Minister’s direction? In fact, absolutely nothing has been done. Again, all we get are words, words and more words. In fact, the reality is completely at odds with what the Prime Minister has called for.
