Replying to Rhéal Éloi Fortin (Bloc Québécois)
“Madam Speaker, I want to begin by commending my colleague on his speech. On the issue of respect for our veterans and our armed forces, we are on the same page. I think it is important to acknowledge that today. On the issue of buying local, I cannot get over it. The government’s decision not to make good on the commitments made by the Prime Minister himself is quite troubling. I do not understand it. I still cannot make sense of it. That said, I have a serious question that is kind of underlying all of this. In his opinion, have any studies been conducted on safety issues? Has any study been conducted to determine whether or not it is safe to transfer such significant responsibilities, which affect all Canadians and Quebeckers, to a private agency under U.S. jurisdiction? I must admit that I am quite concerned about this.”

Madam Speaker, that is a good question. I am not aware of any study, but that is a big concern and a big red flag. I ultimately trust veterans who have put their life on the line for our country, including for the province of Quebec. I have served with many Quebeckers who are very proud. This is a big concern and a big red flag I would have. What happens in a few years if we find that something has gone wrong and the agency has not been properly vetted?
