Mr. Speaker, today, I rise to recognize the 50th anniversary of Haahuupayak Elementary School, located on the traditional territory of Tseshaht First Nation. Since 1976, Haahuupayak has been far more than a school. Its name comes from the Nuu-chah-nulth word meaning “teaching with love”. It has been a place where generations of children have grown up surrounded by indigenous culture, language and community and a strong sense of identity and belonging. For five decades, this remarkable school has helped preserve and strengthen cultural knowledge while empowering young people through education. I want to thank the elders, knowledge-keepers, educators, staff, families and community members whose dedication has made this possible. I am incredibly proud to support Haahuupayak and its important work. On behalf of the people of Courtenay—Alberni, congratulations on 50 extraordinary years of education, culture and language. Klecko klecko.
