Replying to Kevin Waugh (Conservative)
“Mr. Speaker, with today’s opposition motion, we simply want to put Canada first in procurement. We want to honour our veterans. The Corps of Commissionaires in my province of Saskatchewan has been around for decades. I want to salute Lorne Gelowitz, the CEO of northern Saskatchewan, and Dean Rae, the CEO of south Saskatchewan. These are important employment opportunities for Canadians. In 10 days, Saskatoon will once again host the largest indoor Remembrance Day service in the country. We will have between 7,000 and 10,000 people at 11 o’clock at SaskTel Centre. The Corps of Commissionaires is a vital reason for this. I just want to say this to the member for Winnipeg North: Let us respect our veterans and reverse this contract.”

Mr. Speaker, I do respect veterans. I myself am a veteran. The Prime Minister respects veterans. Every member of the government supports and respects our veterans. We will attend a multitude of different events that will recognize the many sacrifices made by our veterans in a multitude of different wars, recognizing our veterans, whether they made the ultimate sacrifice or came back with all sorts of health-related issues, in physical health or mental health. I think it is absolutely critical that we all respect our veterans. I like to think we all do. I myself will go to Brookside, where thousands who lost their lives are laid to rest. I think there are different ways. One of the things is to wear a poppy and support our vets.
