Sébastien Lemire

Replying to Kevin Lamoureux (Liberal)
“Madam Speaker, that is, quite frankly, not true. Whether it is the spring update budget or, I can anticipate, the budget coming out later this week, what we find is a budget that is fair and that addresses every region of the country, including the province of Quebec. What we have seen are major developments, like the port of Churchill, worth well over $1 billion. We have seen a mining company, worth well over $1 billion, through the Major Projects Office. Let us think of the small businesses that will be enhanced, with 8,000-plus indirect jobs, because of the port of Montreal. I wonder if the member would reflect on the many things the government has done. I do not have time to expand on them because of time limitations.”

Madam Speaker, I would be happy to raise my voice to show that I am passionate as well. The reality is that we can make a point-by-point comparison. Forestry companies receive subsidies to operate in Kapuskasing. A project like the one in Dumont Nickel has not yet been recognized, but a comparable project in Timmins, Ontario, has. There are countless examples where Ottawa does not recognize Quebec, and that is deeply problematic.
