Replying to Adam Chambers (Conservative)
“Mr. Speaker, I appreciate my colleague very much, but let us spare Canadians the lecture. When Paul Martin was the finance minister, he met every single deficit reduction target and fiscal anchor that was imposed. At the very first opportunity, the Prime Minister is choosing to break it. In fact, there has not been a finance minister in over a decade that has bothered to even care to keep the fiscal promise. What good is a promise if the Prime Minister has no intention of keeping it?”

Mr. Speaker, I am glad the opposition is very concerned with Thursday’s budget, called “Masters of Our Destiny”. That budget will continue our progress investing in the things that matter to Canadians. What does it matter if Canada has a strong fiscal position if it is not willing to use it in an affordability crisis, where Canadians want their government to stand up and help them? That is exactly what we are focused on. God forbid the Conservatives should write the budget. It would be called “Prisoners of Pessimism”.
