Mr. Speaker, there are ways of ensuring that an individual’s or a family’s actual income is sufficient to purchase basic necessities. Obviously, that is very important for health. However, there is also the issue of uncertainty. People who are living in poverty live in uncertainty, and that also has an impact on their physical and mental health. Programs such as the Canada child benefit for Canadian families with children or the guaranteed income supplement for seniors across Canada are very important for reducing uncertainty. At the end of the day, this is not just a financial initiative, but a health initiative as well.
