Replying to Luc Thériault (Bloc Québécois)
“Mr. Speaker, one of the Bloc Québécois’s budget expectations for the 2025 economic update involved ending the discrimination against seniors aged 65 to 74. We have been fighting for this measure for several years now. It would cost about $3.2 billion. If the government were to end the subsidies it gives to oil companies, it could recoup nearly $6 billion a year. Let us round that down to $5 billion a year. Does my colleague not think that would be a good idea?”

Mr. Speaker, I would like to thank my colleague from the Bloc for his question about Canada’s oil industry, which I think is the best industry in the country. The Bloc Québécois is always asking questions about the oil industry. I wonder if it thinks that oil is not important. It is a very important industry for the country. It pays a lot of taxes and generates a lot of revenue to improve the lives of Canadians. It is important for Canada’s future. It is important for paying bills in the future.
