Replying to Blaine Calkins (Conservative)
“Mr. Speaker, I want to ask my friend, who just talked about some of his previous life experience, about this. The member for Oxford was recently in my riding doing a round table about the failures of the criminal justice system in this country and its ability to keep Canadians safe. The recurring theme that I heard from municipal leaders and law enforcement was that they know who the bad guys are. They know what they are doing. This is a common theme that we hear. I wonder if my colleague would like to expand on the budget’s massive amount of non-investment, for lack of a better term. Is there anything in the budget implementation act that is going to help our justice system actually make Canadians safer?”

Mr. Speaker, all we hear is that we have never had it so good when it comes to crime. I would say that the response from the government on crime has been absolutely inadequate. If the Minister of Justice wants to talk with me, I will show him about 15 areas where the Liberals need to pull up their socks and get going.
