Replying to Dave Epp (Conservative)
“Mr. Speaker, the member for Wellington—Halton Hills North has tried for the last several days to get an indication from the government as to its commitment to its stated goals of relying on fiscal anchors. A number of good things the member spoke to are covered in budget 2025, but it has to be done in the overall context of fiscal responsibility. Due to the lack of responses the House received during question period, I wonder if the member would opine on his view of whether the government should be held to fiscal anchors that it states, and whether they should be carried forward, let us say, even into the budget tomorrow.”

Mr. Speaker, as the member knows, Canada is in a good position when it comes to its financial rating. We have budgets, so we project what is to come, and we look for ways to balance that. Ultimately, the voters will decide who leads this country. It is our responsibility, as MPs, to hold ourselves accountable by communicating with our community and having people agree or disagree with the approach we have taken.
