Replying to Rosemarie Falk (Conservative)
“Madam Speaker, we have heard more than once this evening and throughout the day that Conservatives would like to see the bill split in two. We believe there are two separate issues. There is the mental illness component and there is the advance request component. I am wondering what my colleague thinks about this. Would he agree that there are two separate issues and that both deserve a fulsome debate, specifically the advance requests?”

Madam Speaker, as I already said at the start of my speech, or during a question a while ago, this bill has two components. I had hoped that we could hold separate votes, I mean, that we could divide the vote at second reading stage. Following our work in committee, we could have considered whether to request that the bill be divided and that separate votes be held. At this stage, I would like the Conservatives to consider the possibility of holding two votes at second reading stage.
