Replying to Tamara Kronis (Conservative)
“Madam Speaker, I was really struck by my colleague’s comment that 92% of practising physicians have been hampered by lack of access to information about their patients. The Canadian Medical Association and other medical organizations have been calling for this for a decade. The Competition Tribunal, in June 2022, identified the behaviour of electronic medical record providers as being anti-competitive, and of course we had Bill C-72 before the previous Parliament. My question for the minister, given that the Liberals let Bill C-72 die on the Order Paper when they called an election last January, is, what took them so long?”

Madam Speaker, Claims · 71 wordswhat I can say is that when I took office, work had already been done on the bill. It had died on the Order Paper, 1but I immediately revived it. We started discussions with the provinces and territories to ensure that we could move the bill forward.
