Replying to Jean-Yves Duclos (Liberal)
“Mr. Speaker, I want to commend our colleague for her speech. She obviously demonstrated her deep experience and knowledge of how a modern health care system should work, including in her community. It is very clear from what she has said that she really believes in the value of health data to provide better services to Canadians in her community in particular. Does she have practical experience with respect to the ways in which access to data can improve quality of care and perhaps even save lives?”

Mr. Speaker, Claims · 33 wordsas the member knows, one of the things that happens in our offices on a regular basis is that people contact us with the experiences they have had with the health care system. Reasoning · 25 wordsAs MPs, it is very frustrating for us, because we want to help, but health care delivery is something that is up to the provinces.1Partly on point Claims · 80 wordsLike my colleague, I have heard many stories of parents taking kids to hospitals and finding out that nobody can remember what the medication is and the records are not available. There are also circumstances where seniors who may have dementia or other issues are taken to the hospital by care providers and are not able to provide a full medical health record. Hopefully, this is something this bill would work to address using a federal power in the background.
