Replying to Luc Berthold (Conservative)
“Mr. Speaker, I know this is an eagerly awaited moment for the people watching us on CPAC. I realize that it is a little less so for our colleagues who were invited to leave the chamber before I asked the Thursday question, but that is okay because what I am about to say is still very important. We have one more day to go tomorrow. Moments from now, we will hear about a budget that I hope will save Canadians money. We sent the government our proposals this week, and I hope those ideas will be reflected in the budget. One very important thing is that we will be going home to our families next week to take some time for ourselves and to talk to people in our ridings. I think that matters a lot. Most importantly, there will be a lot of ceremonies to honour veterans. Remembrance Day is coming up on November 11. I think that each one of my colleagues will have the opportunity to pay tribute to our veterans and to all those who have served our country. Since next week is a break week, can the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons tell us what is on the agenda for tomorrow? Will he also be attending Remembrance Day ceremonies next week? What will be on the agenda when we return?”

Mr. Speaker, of course, we are all very proud to wear a poppy, while remembering those who served our country during times of war and those who continue to serve. I would like to acknowledge the people of Gatineau, many of whom work for the Department of National Defence or serve in the Canadian Armed Forces with pride and distinction. I will definitely be attending the Remembrance Day ceremonies in my riding of Gatineau on Sunday. The Norris and Pointe-Gatineau branches of the Royal Canadian Legion will both be holding dignified ceremonies, as they do every year, and I will be proud to attend. This afternoon we will continue with second reading debate of Bill S-5, the connected care for Canadians act, and as all hon. members know, at 4 p.m., which is very soon, the Minister of Finance and National Revenue will deliver the budget speech. Tomorrow we will resume debate on the budget. On the Monday following the constituency week, we will resume consideration at second reading of Bill C-41, the medical assistance in dying safeguards act. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of that week will be spent examining the budget.
