Replying to Frank Caputo (Conservative)
“Mr. Speaker, it is always a pleasure to rise on behalf of the people of Kamloops—Thompson—Nicola, and I am going to take this last opportunity to hope that the budget includes funding for things in Kamloops—Thompson—Nicola like the rebuilding and fast-tracking of the Red Bridge. The Liberals can groan all they want about the funding of the Red Bridge, but I will fight every single day for that funding, or for a new Barriere fire hall. It is always wonderful to ask for these types of things. The Liberals may groan, but I am here to fight for my constituents and common-sense measures. My colleague talked about the PrescribeIT scandal. The minister has not appeared at committee. What does it say to Canadians when a minister refuses to go to committee?”

Mr. Speaker, I think there are a lot of things that Canadians are looking for in their health care system, but what they are really looking for is trust. They want to be able to trust everyone in the House. They want to be able to trust the system. If they cannot depend on a program, for example, PrescribeIT, which wasted $300 million, run by Infoway, how can they trust any new program that comes forward from the Liberals? We need to, as a House, rebuild the trust of the entire Canadian people and put in new programs like those described in Bill S-5. We need to first rebuild the trust that has been lost by the public, which has read and learned about what has happened with the scandal of PrescribeIT and Infoway.
