Pierre Poilievre

Replying to Gabriel Ste-Marie (Bloc Québécois)
“Mr. Speaker, Quebec asked Ottawa to increase its share of health care funding, but Ottawa reduced it. Quebec asked that the $700-million debt related to asylum seekers be repaid, but there is not a single word on the subject. We have a centralizing government that is meddling in this budget, with the electricity grid for example. Furthermore, there is an announcement regarding immigration targets on which Quebec was obviously not consulted. According to the leader of the Conservative Party, why did this centralizing government refuse to listen to or negotiate with Quebec before drafting this budget?”

Mr. Speaker, Liberals are centralizers. They want to build a bigger, stronger and more costly state on the backs of Canadians and Quebeckers across Canada. This is a $765-billion debt-financed budget. When billions of dollars are put on the national credit card, it drives up today’s interest rates and inflation, as well as tomorrow’s taxes. That is why this is one of the most costly budgets in our country’s history. They should have listened to our request to have a budget that would save Canadians money. That should have been the priority, and the Conservatives will continue to fight to lower the cost of living for Canadians.
