Mr. Speaker, Claims · 22 wordsit is Veterans’ Week, 1and I am reminded that the story of service and sacrifice continues to be written by every generation. Anecdote · 30 wordsOn October 25, I joined veterans and serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces at Calgary Cenotaph for the dedication of a new plaque honouring those who served in Afghanistan.2Anecdote Thanks · 116 wordsFor many Canadians, remembrance brings to mind the sacrifices made long ago, but after September 11, 2001, a new generation answered the call to service. More than 40,000 Canadians served in Afghanistan over more than a decade, defending freedom, protecting vulnerable communities and upholding Canada’s commitment to the world.3 As we gather on November 11, we remember all who served and all who fell, including Calgary’s own Corporal Nathan Hornburg, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2007.4 While we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we also pay tribute to the dedicated members of our Armed Forces, who continue to serve both at home and abroad. May their sacrifice never be forgotten, lest we forget. Thanks
