“Mr. Speaker, the member can be assured that this will be independent, because it will be set up as a separate Crown corporation with an independent board and CEO, and it will operate under commercial terms. It will invest money in order to get returns for Canadians. We will see that fund grow over time and continue to invest in large projects that have good financial returns and will pay dividends to everyday Canadians. It is a great concept. I know that members opposite have every right to debate this. That is what the House of Commons is for. What I take issue with is the overall pessimism they have about a sovereign wealth fund. There are many examples around the world of how this can really help achieve national and generational wealth.”
