“Norway built its wealth fund over 36 years using its natural resources and investing abroad. Canada's fund is based on debt. I want the member to admit the government is misleading people by comparing the two.”

Mr. Speaker, I would like to clarify, a bit, the difference between the Norwegian wealth fund and the Canadian debt fund. The Norwegian sovereign wealth fund used assets from Norway’s resources and invested outside the country to create a fund for its citizens. The Canadian sovereign debt fund is supposed to take debt, which the government says will help boost our resources immediately, although the Norwegian sovereign fund took 36 years to build. I am not really squaring the circle here. What I would like, please, is for the member opposite to admit that the government is actually misguiding Canadians in comparing the Norwegian wealth fund to the Canadian sovereign debt fund.
