“Work stoppages are rare, because 95% of these labour deals are reached without one. Our government cares about transparency. We test all our bills carefully to make sure they follow the Charter of Rights before they come to the House.”
“Mr. Speaker, my colleague asked a question about section 107. I will note that 95% of collective agreements in federally regulated sectors are reached without a work stoppage. It is a very rare incident when this happens. Certainly I am in favour of transparency and accountability, as is our government, which is why this legislation is being presented. All of our legislation goes through rigorous charter testing. The last thing the government wants is to be brought into court on a charter challenge. I would rely on the work that has been done by the drafters of the legislation and by the minister in making sure that all legislation is charter-compliant when it comes to the House.”
