“I support this bill because it will grow our economy and help us trade more with countries other than the United States. It gives businesses clear rules while still protecting the rights of workers and Indigenous people.”

Mr. Speaker, there are two underlying themes here: funding growth in the economy and doubling our non-U.S. trade over the next 10 years. There are questions we have to ask ourselves: Are we supporting a growing economy? Are we putting enough effort into diversifying our trade? That is the way we are going to be successful in the future. The holistic approach that my colleague references is really about balance. It is about making sure that businesses have certainty because they see legislation clearly and are able to proceed with predictability. It makes us a reliable trading partner for international capital as well, and it balances the very important rights of workers and of the indigenous people in our country. This is about balance and striking the right balance.
