“I do not support this motion. We cannot just lower fuel prices on our own because our oil industry is closely tied to the United States and global markets. We need to help people with costs now while planning for the future.”
“Mr. Speaker, one of the reasons why it is difficult to support this motion is because it fails to include many factors. It does not take into account the fact that our oil industry is integrated with that of the United States. Canada and the United States have refineries that produce different types of products, like diesel, of course, using both light crude and heavy crude oils. Since our country as a whole is integrated with the United States, we cannot simply say that we are just going to lower prices. We depend on existing international markets and supply chains. We therefore need to provide some relief. We need to have measures to improve the financial situation. We need to do so in the short term, while we build for the long term.”
