“Stephenville International Airport is reopening. This is good for western Newfoundland. The airport will bring investment, support local resources, and create good jobs. I congratulate everyone who helped make this happen.”
Official Hansard

Mr. Speaker, the reopening of Stephenville International Airport marks an important step toward greater opportunity for the residents of western Newfoundland. Newfoundland and Labrador has the resources, skilled workers and determination to build a prosperous future. Strong transportation infrastructure serves to transform those advantages into real opportunities for businesses and families. With its 10,000-foot runway and established aviation infrastructure, Stephenville airport has the potential to attract good investments, support resource development and create good-paying jobs. The airport’s history as Ernest Harmon Air Force Base gave Stephenville a strategic role in North Atlantic defence, with the base serving as a vital link between North America and Europe and for transatlantic crossings. This rich and proud aviation legacy is the foundation to build an ambitious and prosperous future, and this reopening is a tremendous opportunity. I congratulate everyone whose determination made this reopening possible. Their efforts are helping create opportunities for people to work, raise their families and build their futures at home.
