“We updated the military pay system to give service members better allowances. We also helped with housing costs in expensive areas, capped rent at 25% of household income for military housing, and put that rent money back into maintaining those homes. We are making sure our troops are paid fairly and supported.”

Mr. Speaker, I want to clarify my remarks but I will ignore the opposition member’s conspiracy theories. We modernized the entire pay system for members of the Canadian Armed Forces. It now includes new and enhanced allowances that are in line with the requirements of military service. We adjusted the differential allowance to offset housing costs in areas where affordability challenges are most acute. We are protecting members in DND-managed residential housing units by limiting annual increases and capping their shelter charges at 25% of gross household income, and we are investing the revenues from those shelter charges back into the military housing portfolio to support the quality of life of CAF members and their families. We remain focused on fair compensation, personalized support and practical safeguards for the dedicated professionals of the Canadian Armed Forces.
