“The government backed down on taxes that could have helped culture and broadcasting to please Donald Trump. We got nothing in return. Now the government looks bad because it gave up those taxes for nothing.”

Madam Speaker, I am being asked for a brief answer to a question that would take several minutes to address, but I will simply talk about the digital services tax, which could have been used to fund the cultural and broadcasting sectors, as well as the backtracking on the levy of 5% to 15%. These concessions were made during negotiations with Donald Trump. What did we get in return? Nothing, period. Nothing. This is a somewhat awkward position for the government to be in now, saying that it will not reinstate the levy after having removed it to appease someone who never responded favourably to our request. I could go on, but I do not have enough time.
