“I want the House to pass our motion to pay $600 million to the cultural sector. The government should make big tech companies pay for this instead of using taxpayers' money.”
“Mr. Speaker, the motion on the order paper today calls for an interim payment of $600 million, and it could have been more. This money is coming out of the pockets of taxpayers, when, instead of making Canadians pay, the tech giants could have been made to pay. That would have given us more money. Allocating a certain amount is one thing, but why not seek more and make sure that taxpayers do not have to pay anything? I think a responsible government would do exactly what our motion calls for.”
