“The government is keeping the trade talks secret, so we do not know if the Prime Minister protected Quebec's culture. We do know the government gave in to Donald Trump again and again. Taxpayers are paying the price, and Canada got nothing in return.”

Mr. Speaker, we will never know what happened in the final days of the negotiations. Supposedly the Prime Minister had a deal. It was confidential. We do not know what was in it. He met with the provincial premiers, and Quebec seemed unhappy with it. How do we know it was not the Prime Minister himself who stomped on Quebec’s culture? How do we know it was not Quebec itself that said no? Implementing these free trade agreements also requires the co-operation of the provinces. How do we know? We do not know, and we will never know, because this government is not transparent. What we do know is that there is a list of concessions. Time and again, the Canadian government chose to capitulate to Trump. He got a call, and he folded. Taxpayers are paying the price, and Donald Trump is using Canada as a doormat. What have we obtained so far in exchange for these very real and costly concessions? The answer is absolutely nothing.
