“I want the House to approve this report because it offers simple ways to fix the job skills shortage. Government and businesses need to work together to give students training and entry-level jobs. I also urge every member to set up a youth advisory council to hear directly from young people.”
“Mr. Speaker, that is an incredibly important question, and I am a firm believer that we will come up with the best policies when industry and government work close together to find the right policies. In speaking to young people, they want to be part of the solution. I would encourage every member of the House to create a youth advisory council and get recommendations from youth themselves. In speaking to businesses as well, I have learned that they often find a mismatch for the skills needed for a particular job, which is why training and entry-level experience is important for students. When we bring both parties, including the people who are part of the solution, to the table to have a discussion, we will have a better outcome in terms of policies. This report actually has some very simple solutions that would help ease the problem.”
