“This bill must have strong penalties for big social media companies. A slap on the wrist is not enough. If companies do not quickly take down fake sexual images of children, they must face real consequences.”

Madam Speaker, I would like to first off thank my hon. colleague for the question. I would also like to say hi to Walker and Pam Jennings, with whom we share a mutual friendship. I agree with my hon. colleague that this legislation needs to have teeth. We, of course, are talking about very large social media giants, and a slap on the wrist would not be enough for enforcement. We need to make sure we have penalties, particularly for the worst cases and worst offences. These are things too horrible to even talk about, but when we talk about about sexualized deepfakes of children, for example, they must be removed in a very swift manner, and if not, there need to be consequences for the social media giants.
