“We need to send this bill to committee so members can study it, change it, and pass it quickly. We all want to protect children, and Parliament must act now to keep them safe.”
“Mr. Speaker, absolutely, the bill needs to get to committee. I have been here a couple of years, and I have not seen a bill this size go through unamended. I imagine the committee will hear a lot of the same heart-wrenching stories that I heard, and I hope this compels committee members to act as quickly as possible. I do not envy them. I would not want to go through it again, but it is important work that Parliament will do. I know that every member of the House wants to protect our kids, but Parliament needs to act, government needs to step up and we need to do better for our children.”
