“We must not deny medical assistance in dying to people who are suffering from mental illness. I want my colleague to explain how this bill might go against the Constitution.”
“Mr. Speaker, I thank my colleague for her speech, which was, frankly, highly eloquent and exceptionally clear on the importance of addressing this issue and not shying away from difficult questions. Of course, we need to improve access to mental health care. I think we all agree on that. Beyond that, however, can we stop avoiding the issue and denying access to this group of people who are suffering? I would like my colleague to elaborate on the potentially highly unconstitutional nature of the bill currently before us.”
