“Only about 4% of government contracts go to American companies, while many go to Canadian businesses. Projects like the Davie shipyard and building icebreakers create jobs here at home. I want my colleague to share their view on these kinds of projects.”
“Mr. Speaker, I want draw on what my colleague on the other side of the House said. Approximately 4% of government contracts are awarded to U.S. companies. By contrast, a great many contracts are now awarded to Canadian companies. I would like my colleague to tell me a little about what we are doing with the Davie shipyard, because this will have a significant impact here at home. There is the Davie Shipyard, but there is also the contract for the icebreakers. I think these are two particularly interesting projects. What is the government’s position on these sorts of projects, which are creating jobs here at home?”
