“The Commissionaires has helped Canadian veterans find work and support each other since 1925. The government should have helped this Canadian non-profit keep the security contract. Its bid was only 1% higher than the American company that won.”

Mr. Speaker, the key word in relation to what we are discussing today is “sensitivity”. Yes, it is sad for the veterans. It is especially sad for the Commissionaires, who have been carrying out this kind of work since 1925 and who have been there for veterans leaving either the armed forces or a conflict zone, often without knowing what comes next. Canada had an organization that allowed them to continue to live with dignity and find work. They felt like they were still part of a group. Folks in the military know how important that sense of camaraderie is. Yes, it is sad that the government attaches so little importance to the Commissionaires. Above all, I do not understand why, despite all the time it had, the government could not put measures in place to allow a Canadian non-profit company to secure this contract, when its bid was only 1% higher than that of its American competitor.
